"La Arquitectura del Crimen" is a documentary that delves into a dark chapter of Argentine history during the last civic-military dictatorship. In this project, Experimenta Studio played key roles: defining the aesthetic criteria, treating archival material, graphic design, animation, and color grading of the feature film. The documentary explores a camouflage operation at the Servicio de Informaciones in Rosario, a clandestine detention center, using images, unpublished archives, and survivor testimonies to preserve memory.

In collaboration with the director, we established a coherent and meaningful visual language for the documentary. The color palette, focusing on yellow, bluish-gray, and black, symbolizes danger and death, while the inspiration drawn from retroprojection techniques and the use of slides, along with typography, created an atmosphere of a police investigation that progresses step by step with the narrative.

We simulated a screen for retroprojection, illuminated with fluorescent tubes, which served as a visual support and allowed for a dynamic presentation of plans and photographs. The superimposition of filmstrips added information about architectural changes and important details. We treated the photos as classified documents, with a design that reflects their official and secret nature. Additionally, we were responsible for the design and animation of the initial title, chapter separators, texts on screen, transitions, and final credits, enriching the documentary with a fluid and detailed visual narrative. The color grading of the feature film was crucial in elevating the visual quality, achieving a cinematic look that respected the authenticity of the material.

Our involvement in "La Arquitectura del Crimen" was more than a technical task; it was a contribution to historical memory. The creation of a striking aesthetic not only captured the viewer's attention but also facilitated the understanding of a complex narrative. This project underlines the relevance of visual art in telling stories that are difficult but essential, ensuring that crucial aspects of our contemporary history are remembered and understood.
