Project

We carried out the creation of 15 animated shorts for a cultural and educational web application, working with scripts provided by the production company and in constant communication with the director. Each of these shorts is based on a poem recited by a voiceover and supported by an original soundtrack. Our collaboration involved working closely with illustrators and plastic artists specially chosen to bring the project to life.

  • Project Duration and Work Process: The project spanned an extensive period of 18 months, with the goal of creating a complete animation of 3 minutes duration per month. The process was conducted meticulously, with a tidy workflow. The production company provided audiovisual scripts, and through analysis and breakdowns, we identified the need to collaborate with plastic artists and illustrators whose styles would align with each poem.

  • Collaboration with Illustrators and Plastic Artists: The work with illustrators was structured in three deliveries: the first based on schematic animatics and directions provided by Experimenta Estudio in previous meetings, followed by the creation of final illustrations for each animation frame. These were sent to the director for evaluation and feedback, leading to the second delivery to cross-check with the director and refine details, and finally, a third delivery where the illustrator provided the final material, ready for animation. The animation process ran in parallel and followed a similar structure, with feedback and meetings with the director at each stage.

  • Aesthetic Adaptation to Each Poem: Each animation was designed considering the aesthetic demanded by the corresponding poem. For example, in "El Quijote," we drew inspiration from Picasso's etchings, designing comical characters for "Insects." In "La Rebelión," we sought a medieval expressionist aesthetic, while in "Del Arte Poético," we adopted a geometric, minimalist aesthetic. The individual styles and proposals of the artists and illustrators were respected and valued, seeking natural adaptations that did not force their skills and individual styles.

  • Variety in Animation Techniques: Each animation piece demanded a specific approach, from fluid animations combining motion graphics techniques to those with a cinematic focus requiring parallaxes, particle systems, focus and defocus, character animation, and 2D/3D environment composition.

  • Successful Outcome: The director and producer were highly satisfied with the process, the pace of work, and the quality of the results. After the initial order of 10 pieces, they added 5 more. This project was enriching due to interdisciplinary work, the challenges faced, and the continuous exchange of ideas and knowledge with our team of artists and illustrators and the project's direction."
